Two boys are dead, one was injured in a shooting in southwest Baltimore, police said.

The shooting is a continued trend of violence in the city. In the past 49 hours, five boys have been shot, three of them have died.

According to police, officers responded just before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to the 3500 block of Gelston Drive for a report of gunfire.

When officers arrived, police said they located a 15-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. Responding officers applied a tourniquet until medics arrived to transport him to an area hospital, police said.

Police said officers also located two unidentified male juveniles suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Those victims were pronounced dead, police said.

Baltimore police Commissioner Michael Harrison reacted to the shooting and called on the community for help.

“It’s incredibly frustrating, but it doesn’t deter our determination. We are determined, we will not slow down and we will not stop. We will always relentlessly pursue those who are committing violence and harming other people in this city,” Harrison said. “So while it may be frustrating, it only energizes us to work harder and to work faster and to work smarter, but we need community help to do that.”

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call police at 410-396-2100 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
